Small Local Communities

Marinette LighthouseMarinette County offers a rich history representative of Wisconsin's past. Logging, mining, industry, farming, fishing and the fur trade attracted people to the area from all parts of the United States and the world. The area is home to many small communities like Pembine, Peshtigo, Amberg and Niagara that offer a snapshot into this rich past. Two of these small towns are close to Heritage Shores, Crivitz and Wausaukee.

Crivitz

Located on the Peshtigo River directly between Caldron Falls/High Falls Reservoirs and Lake Noquebay, Crivitz is a small community of less than one thousand people. It serves as the gateway to the newest addition to the Wisconsin State Park system, the recently opened Governor Thompson State Park. Although the village has only one traffic light it offers restaurants, shops, a hardware store, service stations, churches, schools, a new clinic and an old fashioned bakery.

Wausaukee

WausaukeeNamed for a Native American word meaning "Among the Hills," this small town of over 1,500 year-round residents has been incorporated for over 100 years. Just a few miles west from the Heritage Shores property, this quaint town provides an easy place to find gas, groceries, a dinner out or an ice cream.

Larger Nearby Communities

While living up north is a dream for many people, one also has to consider the practical aspects of the vacation property lifestyle. Close to Heritage Shores three communities provide modern conveniences and all of the essential day to day necessities required for northern living, Marinette, Menominee and Green Bay.

Marinette/Menominee

MarinetteSituated on the Bay of Green Bay, commuting between Marinette, Wisconsin and Menominee, Michigan was done by canoe until 1867 when the first bridge was constructed across the Menominee River. Only about 20 minutes away from Heritage Shores, these two large towns provide shopping, restaurants, hospitals, marinas and seasonal festivals that celebrate the region.

Green Bay

Green BayAs the gateway to Northeastern Wisconsin, Green Bay is a large small town which offers all of the conveniences that anyone could want within an hour of their "Up North" getaway place. With arts, medical facilities, shopping, restaurants, festivals, a full service airport and, of course, the Green Bay Packers, the benefits of being close to this small city will provide an entirely new aspect rarely found in northwoods living.
