Whitewater Rafting

Whitewater Rafting

One of the lesser known recreational pursuits found in Marinette County is the opportunity to experience outstanding whitewater action. In the 1800's loggers used the might of the Menominee River and Peshtigo River to float timber to downstream lumber mills. Today, rafting outfitters offer guided tours, instruction and equipment for experiencing those same whitewater rapids and gentle stretches of river.

Just a few miles to the west of Three Rivers Landing, the roaring rapids section of the Peshtigo River offers one of the longest continuous stretches of whitewater rapids in the Midwest. Although Three Rivers Landing is located on the Menominee River, property owners can travel to the northern reaches of the river to experience rafting adventure. Magnificent two-hundred foot cliffs concentrate the power of the Menominee River coursing over a ten foot waterfall at beautiful Piers Gorge.

Located in the most scenic wilderness in the state of Wisconsin, every season offers a different rafting experience. During the spring runoff, certain stretches of the Menominee River and the Peshtigo River rival the rafting rivers of the western states with rapids rated up to Class III and IV. By mid-summer those same stretches of river decrease in water volume offering fun rapids along with long, calm sections for relaxing floats to cool off on a hot day or for experiencing the majesty of fall from the water.
